Pet Moving Checklist Essentials
Founded in 2007 by Kevin Diaz, Full Service Moving Companies understands that pets are family members who need special care during relocations across the United States. This checklist helps ensure your furry, feathered, or scaled companions travel safely and settle smoothly.

Pre-Move Pet Preparation
- Schedule a vet visit 4-6 weeks before moving for health certificates and vaccinations.
- Update microchip information and ensure collars have current ID tags.
- Research pet-friendly hotels or boarding along your travel route.
- Gather 2 weeks’ supply of food, medications, and favorite treats.
- Create a pet medical record folder with vaccination proof and vet contacts.

Packing Pet-Safe Supplies
- Pack a “pet essentials” box with food bowls, leash, litter pan, and waste bags.
- Include extra litter, pee pads, and cleaning supplies for accidents.
- Secure aquariums by draining water and taping glass securely.
- Wrap pet carriers with familiar blankets for comfort during transport.
- Keep one favorite toy or blanket accessible for each pet.

Health and Travel Documents
- Obtain health certificates required for interstate pet travel (usually within 10 days).
- Check airline pet policies if flying, including crate size requirements.
- Verify rabies vaccination is current (required for most states).
- Carry copies of all documents in both digital and printed formats.
- Research destination state pet quarantine rules and regulations.

Moving Day Pet Plan
- Exercise pets thoroughly before loading to reduce stress.
- Keep pets in a quiet, familiar room during packing and loading.
- Never leave pets in parked vehicles during loading/unloading.
- Transport pets in your vehicle rather than with moving items.
- Stop every 2-3 hours during road trips for bathroom breaks.

Arrival and Settling In
- Set up food, water, and litter immediately in a quiet room.
- Keep new pets indoors for at least 48 hours to adjust.
- Maintain regular feeding and medication schedules.
- Walk familiar neighborhood routes to re-establish territory.
- Introduce pets to yard and neighbors gradually over days.
